Vol. 52: Rockabilly & Rock 'n' Roll From The Vaults Of Mar Vel' & Glenn Records Mar Vel' and Glenn Records, labels run by Harry Glenn from 1949 in Hammond, northern Indiana, not far from Chicago, specializing in country and rockabilly. In the 1950s and early '60s, Glenn produced a selection of high quality rockabilly and R'n'R recordings. Among his most famous artists were Jack Bradshaw and Bobby Sisco. For the 52nd edition in our label based CD series 'That'll Flat... Git It!', producer Nico Feuerbach has compiled the very best tracks from the extensive catalogs of Mar Vel' and Glenn. Our Chicago music expert Bill Dahl wrote the detailed liner notes for the illustrated booklet. We have carefully remastered the historic recordings from the best available sources according to Bear Family standards. Although the town was situated just east of the Illinois state line in Indiana, Hammond's taste in music was well removed from that of nearby Chicago. Hammond served as homebase for a platoon of country and rockabilly performers, and Harry Glenn was right there to document it all on from 1949 on with his feisty Mar Vel' and Glenn labels. His diskery's enduring slogan "Hits of Tomorrow Recorded Today" may have been a tad ambitious, but Bear Family's latest entry in it's 'That'll Flat... Git It!' series underscores it's importance as Glenn released more than his share of classic rockabilly and rock and roll. This is raw boned juke joint music at it's finest, served up by local performers working the rough blue collar barrooms of Hammond and Calumet City, Illinois and laying it down in the studio just the way they did every night no frills and plenty of thrills. Jack Bradshaw and Bobby Sisco were Harry's best known performers, both solidly country rooted but obviously adept at a little rocking now and then, and Harry must have harbored high hopes for Chuck Dallis, Billy Nix, and Billy Hall they each cut plenty of great early '60s rock and roll for him. A few years before that, Bob Burton, Harry Carter (aka The Rock N Roll Apache), and Harold Allen were turning out first class rockabilly singles, while Herbie Duncan's insane freeform 1958 rant Hot Lips Baby was in a class all it's own. Even into the mid '60s, Harry was still going strong with Carl Newman, Slim O'Mary and The Southerneers, and The Law Brothers' twangy cover of George Jones' frothy Root Beer. Thanks to Harry Glenn, Hammond, Indiana was an unlikely country, rockabilly, and rock and roll recording hotbed. This set offers the hottest sides in his sizable catalog!

Tracklist:

Harry Carter with the Dixie Rhythmaires - Jump Baby Jump

Bill Hall - Move Over Rover

Herbie Duncan - Hot Lips Baby

Jack Bradshaw - Naughty Girls

Chuck Dallis - Come on Let's Go

Bill Ferguson - Dark and Stormy

Rick Reason and the Satellites - I Feel So Bad

Billy Nix - Moon Twist

Ray Lynn - Mean Mean Woman

Bobby Sisco - Honkin' Tonkin' Rhythm

Harry Carter with the Dixie Rhythmaires - Rhythm in My Soul

Bob Burton - Tired of Rocking

The Gaye Sisters - Oh Ricky

Paul Parker - Rockin' for Goldwater

Jim Gatlin - the Way You're Treating Me

Chuck Dallis with Lorenzo Smith Orchestra - Good Show, But No Go

Billy Nix - Perhaps

Mel Kimbrough - Ha, Ha, Hey, Hey

Herbie Duncan - Escape

Harry Carter with the Rhythmaires - I Don't Want You

Ronnie Jones - Knocking on the Back Side

Harold Allen - I Need Some Lovin'

Jim Gatlin - Would It Matter at All

The Law Brothers - Root Beer

Chuck Dallis - Joni Kaye

Billy Nix - Get with the Beat

Slim O'Mary and the Southerners - Row Boy, Sink or Swim

Skipper Hunt Combo - What Am I Gonna Do

Harry Carter with the Rhythmaires - You Made Me Love You Baby

Bob Burton - Boogie Woogie Baby of Mine

Bobby Sisco - Now I'm Free

Chuck Dallis - Moon Twist

Herbie Duncan - Little Angel

Billy Hall - I Need Some Lovin'

Carl Newman - Twist on Guitar

Herbie Duncan - That's All

UPC: 4000127177810
Label: Bear Family
Release Date: 12.12.25
Format: CD

https://vinylrevivalrecordstore.com/products/thatll-flat-git-it-vol-52-rockabilly-var-thatll-flat-git-it-vol-52-rockabilly-var-cd
