Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770) was a leading Italian composer and violinist of the Baroque period. He is particularly well known for his numerous violin concertos and violin sonatas. His pieces are characterised by virtuosic passages, expressive melodies and demanding playing techniques. Tartini attached great importance to a beautiful, singing tone on the violin. Among his best-known works is the Violin Sonata in G minor, nicknamed the 'Devil's Trill Sonata'. It is still regarded today as one of the most difficult and famous works in the violin repertoire.
